Guntersville FIshing Charter The big ones are biting at Guntersville
Guntersville is healthy and the big ones are biting. Saturday's BFL produced 31 limits of 5 bass over 20lbs. The grass is getting green, days longer and the bass at guntersville are feeding up for the spawn. As the weather stabilizes next week with consistent warm temperatures this lake is going to be unreal. Each group of fish has positioned itself relative to the prespawn phase. The group out in the river has moved to 12-14 feet, the fish in the creeks have moved up to 9 feet and the grass fish are setup just outside the spawning areas. If you are interested in fishing with a USCG licensed captain call 255-744-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter February 12th Guntersville bass fishing report
Extreme cold followed by above average temperatures then heavy rain has the bass on the move. This last week I did 5 guide trips and we landed 122 bass. It's NOT easy. Each day we had to move and adjust and switch baits to get dialed in. Now the rains are here. Guntersville unlike most lakes can withstand heavy rain and keep fishable clarity. The current will group them up and absolutely stack them on the ledges. As the weather calms down and the bass get acclimated to all the changes it's going to be an unbelievable spring. Some days this week I felt like I could catch 100 and other days I was hoping to catch 15. The lake is full of big ones and the first stage of the spawn should occur around the full moon in March. These fish however will pull up and spawn each full and new moon until June. If you are interested in fishing with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter February 6th Guntersville bass fishing report
The warm weather has yielded outstanding fishing. I have guided everyday this week and the fish are biting better as the water warms. Monday we landed 12,Tuesday 14 and yesterday 26. Our best 5 each day has been 18-22 lbs. This spring should be outstanding based on historical data relative to the colder winter. The fish are in 3 depth zones and feeding aggressively. Out on the creek ledges in 19 feet you can catch them on a minnow type bait, outside the grass lines a crankbait is working well and the shallow bite is starting to improve. The population is excellent, the grass is healthy and the warmer weather means great fishing. If you would like to fish with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter January 30th Guntersville fishing report
I did 2 guide trips this week and the fishing is improving everyday. With 70s forecasted for next week excellent fishing should be here to stay. We had 2 bouts of extreme cold and it did change things. The bass did move deeper and they were harder to catch for 2-3 days however as the weather improved so did the fishing. One thing I noticed was the shad were opaque white instead of the usual translucent silver color. Electronics were absolutely the key to finding and catching fish. The group of fish that was in 12-14 feet moved to 19 and the group in 4 feet moved to 9 feet. The trap bite was off but slower moving baits fished in the strike zone worked nicely. We landed 15 fish per day and the average size was 4lbs. If you are interested in fishing with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter The effects of extreme cold on the springtime fishing at Guntersville
We have had 2 bouts of extreme cold here in Alabama which is very uncommon. Will this delay the spawn? NO. Will it make fishing better? Yes. We are expecting a quick warmup into the 60s and 70s in February. This cold weather along with a healthy population of bass will yield outstanding fishing this spring and summer. Why? First some of the shad will not survive the cold creating a change in the ratio of bass to forage which is in the anglers favor. Also the grass will thin out a bit allowing anglers an opportunity to target the bass without as much obstruction. Soon all the forage and bass will be seeking warmer water and that's when they can be caught easily. The cure to cabin fever is a fishing trip to guntersville. If you are interested in fishing with a USCG licensed captain call 255-744-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter January 16th Neely Henry bass fishing report
Neely Henry is absolutey full of bass and they are biting. I did 1 guide trip at Neely this week and 1 at guntersville. The Neely trip yielded a total catch rate of 14 bass with most in the 2.75lb range. If you think you need to fish slow and deep in the winter you better think again. These fish are in less than 10 feet and they love chasing crankbaits. Current breaks and riprap are the most productive areas and a dt8 or 7a bomber are the best baits. Even when the water clears I prefer red or chartreuse in the winter. The best way to winterize your boat is to go fishing. Guntersville FIshing Charter January 8th Guntersville bass fishing report
It's cold outside but the fishing at guntersville is hot. This last week I did 2 guide trips and we had great catch rates and the best size of the year. In the winter I average about 20 bass landed per day and the average size is 3.75 pounds. My client on Monday got his PB and my client Sunday was shocked how big these fish are. We are in the midst of a blast of cold air which will only make the fishing better when it's safe to get out there. My 3 best baits right now are an arig, jerkbait and a freeloader. I expect phenomenal fishing after this cold front. Call and book today at 256-744-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter January 2nd Guntersville Bass fishing report
It's getting fun out there now. There are fish in every depth zone and you can catch them any way you like. If you want to shake a fluke style bait that will produce. If you want to power fish that can work too. This last week I did 4 guide trips and we averaged about 25 catches per day with the size being unreal. We have had a best 5 over 24lbs everyday. We are about to have a major cold front and I know exactly what these fish will do relative to the water temp decreasing. If you are interested in fishing with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185.
