Went out fishing on 13th and 27th Oct. fished the reefs between mornington and Mt martha. 10-15mtrs. water temp was 15.5. baits used - pillchard, fresh squid and silver whiting. lots of marks/activity. however only caught by-catch shark and flatties. not quite warm enough for the snapper bite. the guys had all the right rigs and even bought clothes from FYNX.net.au to keep warm and the sun off during the day. we had a lot of fun but it wasn't to be. maybe next time.
as we know, the most productive spots have been around 15-25 meters deep, with snapper in the 2-5 kg range being commonly caught. Local fishers report success using fresh squid or pilchards as bait, with a slow, steady retrieve proving effective. Early morning and evening sessions have yielded the best results, and anglers are advised to anchor carefully to avoid disturbing the shoals. Overall, it's a great time for snapper enthusiasts in this region.
