Spots are loaded into the internal memory of the GPS unit, no different than if you marked a spot/waypoint yourself. Except, ours have names, icons, descriptions, etc. Even if you did not load the spots into the unit, if you marked a new waypoint on the screen, it would appear in both Nav and Fishing Chart. I am sure you can hide waypoints in the newer units, but you would need to consult your user manual or Garmin on how that works, as it is still the default in all units including the Garmins I own. The Garmin 541s does have a 3000 spot/waypoint limit, whereas all new Garmins have a 5000 spot limit.
