Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Hard to believe today was the last day fishing for 2014! The good news is many boats ended the year with some great catches! We've really seen a mixed bag of fish here the past week. Not everyday was red hot fishing for all of the boats, but every boat has been on some sort of fish! The sailfish bite has been spread out while fishing in Islamorada latley. A few boats have had some good days, but some of the other boats put in some time and haven't found them. The boats that really have been dedicating their day to just fishing for sailfish have been successful for the most part. The Catch 22 had an incredible day yesterday with 8 sailfish releases and a big african pompano, with another 4 releases today and another African Pompano. The Cloud Nine also had a good day on the sailfish with 4 releases today, and the Relentless had a couple releases. The Cloud Nine and Gon Fishin V also had a few releases each a couple days back. The king mackerel bite has been the best bet for guaranteed action lately, and there's been some nice "smoker" kings in the 25 - 35 lb range! Most of the kings have been in the 5 - 15 lb range. They are a blast on light spinning tackle. The bottom fishing on the reef has been producing enough yellowtail and mangrove snapper for dinner, as well some mutton snapper. Today was the last day until May 1st, 2015 to keep and shallow water grouper, and we saw some nice black grouper on the dock today. There's been a few wahoo around and cobia around too. Today the Reel McCoy found a nice school of cobia on their way back to the dock and had fish up to 57 lbs, and two days ago the Kalex weighed in a 65 lber! Fishing for cobia takes lots of patience as the crew searches for schools of them inside the reef, but if/when they find them be ready for some good action. I think the sailfish bite will get more consistent for all the boats once we get another cold front to blow through, and we should still keep seeing the king mackerel and snappers each day. There was also a couple big bull sharks caught and released on the reef as well today. I made it out on 2 daytime swordfishing charters the past week, and the Catch 22 took one as well, and we each got 1 fish on all of our trips. There's still a shot at broadbill swordfish if the weather remains decent. It was a super busy week here but after the Christmas crowd leaves we'll have some boats open for sure in the coming weeks. Give us a call at 305 664 2461 to book a charter!
