After a couple of days of a little slower offshore action, today things really seamed to pick up. The first boat to report in had a limit of really nice Yellowfin Tuna. The first two fish cleaning tickets I saw had over 400 pounds of Tuna after being cleaned! Those Anglers sure will be eating well for a long time. All the other offshore boats caught Yellowfin Tuna and Dolphin. It's been a few days since any Billfish have been reported. I expect to see them showing up in pretty good numbers within the next week or two. Last summer the White and Blue Marlin fishing was outstanding. White Marlin in particular were being hooked in double digit numbers at times. If this summer is anything like last one we have a lot to look forward to! With all the attention being paid to the Palagic species it's important that I take the time to mention how good the wreck fishing has been offshore as well. The Captains have really honed in on Blueline Tiles and Sea Bass. Today was no exception they did really well catching limits of both on the boats that Wreck fished. If you have never had the oppurtunity to eat fresh Tile fish or Black Sea Bass you should add it to your list. They call them both, poor man's Lobster for good reason. Although chances are your not very poor if you have the oppurtunity to eat some. A few Grouper were also caught today. One massive grouper was lost by an angler right at the boat. After a prolonged battle it turned into a quick catch and release!
The Near shore fleet guys are doing phenomenal! All the necessary ingredients for a great spring run of Cobia seam to have fallen into place. The wind, weather, and water temp are all just right resulting in the perfect storm of conditions for great Cobia fishing. Seams like mother nature has a wicked way of throwing a curve ball right in the middle of the Cobia run some years. This year the weather looks great for the forseeable future. Today they caught some really nice Cobia. You know the captains are getting spoiled when they hit you with, "The biggest was only 70 pounds." They also caught good numbers of Spanish Mackerel inshore today. Those trips are really starting to get booked so let us know asap if you want to get in on the Cobia action.
