Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
The weather still is pretty nice though it has been breezy the last few days. However the nice thing about the backcountry fishing in Islamorada is you can almost always run a path that keeps you out of the nasty choppy water/weather and figure out a fishing plan. A few day ago Capt. John Johansen reported fishing with nick and kayleb from Texas finishing up a third day with kayleb catching a big bull shark lots of mackerel big trout nice snappers and a Goliath grouper, an action packed trip. Capt. Ben Ekblom on Thursday reported a productive day as well with 10 snook, a nice redfish, limit of snappers, and other action fishing around the flamingo area. Capt. Skip Nielsen that day had some boys over at the cape sable area, they had a mixed bag with redfish, black drum, snook, and sheepshead. Lots of sheepshead reported to be showing up which is usual this time of year with the cooler temperatures. They also had great fishing on the patch reefs with many groupers showing up out there - great rod benders! He also fished local friend Dr. Joanne Mahoney yesterday, they had mixed bag action with redfish, snook, black durm, and lots of jacks and other various things. Capt. Rick Stanczyk fished yesterday and also had a mixed bag. The mackerel fishing out west wasn't very productive in the morning we tried the usual sprigger bank area and further up in the bay but only a handful of mackerel, a few big snappers, and a bluefish. I don't think the current quite got moving and it was tough to tell with the hard wind but waiting a little later till the afternoon may be a better bet. But the afternoon more than made up for it they caught a dozen snook, half dozen reds, black drum, and a few trout and jacks. The afternoon tides around flamingo were extremely low which can often funnel many fish into certain channels and runoffs providing productive fishing. Christmas week is coming up soon and many charters and guides are booking up FAST! If your here and looking for something to do give Bud n Marys a call, it would make a great christmas present to send someone fishing!
