Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
It was a great week to be Fishing in the Florida Keys! The weather cooled off for a couple days, with the low temperatures in the mid 60's, and lots of sunshine! Most of the Islamorada Offshore Charter boats have been fishing the reef the past few days, and a couple boats have ventured further offshore into deep water. The sailfish bite near the reef has been on and off. Today was a little tough, with just 1 sailfish released amongst the fleet. The two days prior were definitely better, with most the boats with 2 - 3 releases, and one boat had 6 releases one day. The boats that wanted eating fish have been doing fair with yellowtail snapper and mutton snapper while anchored down, as well as some king mackerel and cero mackerel. There's been some cobias around each day, both juvenile fish that have to be released, as well as some keeper size fish. The black grouper have been biting well too, but remember it is just catch and release for the shallow water grouper complex until May 1st. Some other fun action has come with barracuda. There's been a few suprises with other pelagic species including a couple blackfin tuna, mahi, and wahoo the past few days while live bait trolling and kite fishing. As we get more into spring time we should see more and more of those. The amberjack have been showing up better and better each week, with fish from 5 to 40 lbs. A few boats have been getting out the big tackle for bull and hammerhead sharks the past few days, as well as goliath grouper. They have been around the wrecks just outside the reef line. A few boats have been doing some "deep dropping" (bottom fishing in 400 - 600' of water), and that has been producing some of the best eating fish around. They include blueline tilefish, Yellowedge and snowy grouper (they are open, since they are not a shallow water grouper), rose porgy, vermillion snapper, and queen snapper. The next few weeks we should see some good fishing, with the variety continuing on the reef, as well as a little further offshore. Let us know when you're ready to go out on your own Islamorada Fishing Charter and we'll find you a good boat. Call us in the office at 305 664 2461
