Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
We had another late season cold front move through last night and early this morning. Temperatures didn't drop a ton, but the wind went from a strong south east breed a few days ago, all the way to the west, and then from the north this morning. With the weather conditions changing so much each day it was tough work figuring out a game plan for each deep sea fishing charter in Islamorada. Each trip has been a little different, but the trick is to fish for what's biting in order to have an enjoyable day! Overall on the reef there has been a decent yellowtail snapper bite. A few days were tough when the current was dead, but most the boats were able to move in shallower where there was a little tide and still caught dinner. There's also been some black, red, and gag groupers on the bottom, but they have all been caught and released (season re opens May 1st). Around the wrecks and reef line there's been a handful of king and cero mackerel. There's also been a stray cobia here and there while fishing the bottom. The guys haven't been finding many stingrays with cobia following them, but once the weather conditions settle the next couple days I wouldn't be suprised to see some nice ones on the dock! Further offshore there has been some "football" (2 - 5 lb) blackfin tuna, out from 200' all the way to the humps in 500-800' of water. The mahi bite has been hit and miss, but the boats who really putting the time in have been finding some fish for the most part. You do have to dedicate your time though and it's a lot of hunting around waiting, and then short spurts of action. There has been some really nice amberjack around, and if you want to catch something that pulls hard, you need to saddle up to one of these bad boys. They have been 20 - 60 lbs for the most part, but the Redfish did have a monster 90 lber the other day! The "deep dropping" has been steady action too, fishing the bottom in 400 - 600' of water. The Gon Fishin has had some unbelievable catches lately with nice yellowedge grouper up to 25 lbs, as well as blueline tile up to 8 lbs, and then some rose porgy. There has been a few sailfish around, but they have been tough to fish for because we have had minimal current and fish have been seen in all different depths. We also made it out on two daytime swordfishing charters last Thursday and Friday. It was very rough conditions with strong winds, but we managed one swordfish Thursday, and missed our 1 shot on Friday. The shark fishing has still been active too. Today aboard the Bn'M II we released a 250 lb hammerhead shark, and a 200 lb bull shark. I think we will continue to see the mixed bag of fish the next week, but hopefully the mahi will be more consistent when the wind settles in the east for a couple days. Give Bud n' Mary's Marina a call when you're ready to go have a fun day fishing! 305 664 2461

It was a very rough day in 25 knot winds, but we managed a 110 lb broadbill on the Bn'M II
Come to the keys and catch and hug a 60 lb amberjack like this guy!
