Guntersville FIshing Charter January 25th Guntersville bass fishing report
Wow!!! 5 days of extreme cold followed by 65 degree weather has yielded phenomenal fishing as expected. The grass is thinned out and the bass are feeding. This week we have caught them at will all day every day. This time of year the average fish is 4 pounds and they are healthy and beautiful. There are 3 dominant patterns on the lake at the moment. Ofcourse the famous Guntersville ledges are producing well with the fish positioned in 12-14 feet on the edge of the channel. Bridges can provide unbelievable fishing at the moment by simply winding a swimbait slowly beside the columns. There is also a shallow prespawn bite that can be effective at the moment. Guntersville FIshing Charter How will this extreme cold effect bass fishing
This extreme cold will absolutely make spring bass fishing better. Several environmental factors are at play here. One thing that will happen is the entire water column is now cold. As soon as it warms up bass will flood the shallows. The next big factor is the aquatic vegetation will thin out and it will group up the fish and it's easier to get a bait through. Maybe the most impactful variable is a percentage of the baitfish and forage will not survive the cold so it will force the fish to be more agressive as they feed up in preparation for the spawn. Now where should you look to find them? Shoreline rock structure and hard bottom areas will heat up and attract forage and bass. Guntersville FIshing Charter Neely Henry bass fishing report
The rain and cooler weather has the spotted bass feeding aggressively and some big largemouth are showing up as well. There are 3 different patterns at the moment that are working. A 3/8 brown and orange jig fished at a 45 degree angle on the bluffs is a great way to catch big spots right now. Cranking hard spots in 6-9 feet is working as well producing largemouth and spotted bass. Up the river in the current a spinnerbait slow rolled near wood is also a great way to catch big ones right now. The tournaments are taking 16-19 pounds but with spring approaching it will take over 20 pounds to win soon. If you are interested in fishing with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter 32.3 pounds won the new year’s tournament at Guntersville!!!
Wow. Guntersville is ridiculous. Congratulations to Eric Lampkin for winning the New Year's Day tournament with 5 fish that weighed 32.3 pounds. It took 29 pounds to get a check. There were many 20 plus pound bags that got a pat on the back. Guntersville has worked hard to maintain a healthy fishery with excellent habitat and the recent stocking program is paying off as well. The best part is you can catch them any way you want right now. Bridges, ledges or grasslines. When it warms a little and the fish flood the spawning areas it is going to be unreal. If you like to bass fish you need to experience this. Call 256-744-5185 to book a trip with a USCG licensed captain.
Guntersville FIshing Charter Guntersville 2023 end of the year review
2023 was my best year to date as far as total bass catches is concerned. My boat averaged over 30 bass landed per day and the size was excellent landing 5@18-19 pounds regularly. My crappie guides also had an excellent year limiting out on most trips and filling a cooler every time. I did 187 trips this year and I look forward to doing even more in 2024. Our best baits for the year were soft plastics, chatterbaits and crankbaits. In June and July we did well out deep but by in large most of our fish were caught in 10 feet or less. The stocking program has been a huge success helping maintain numbers of fish and strengthening genetics. Another big improvement in the fishing can be attributed to the reemergence of grasses such as milfoil and hydrilla. Guntersville FIshing Charter Christmas Eve Guntersville bass fishing report
It's 65 degrees and the bass are feeding at guntersville. The bass are starting to position themselves strategically for the spawn. Points and humps out from spawning areas are where our best fishing is at the moment. Depths from 6-9 feet are usually best and our best baits have been crankbaits and chatterbaits. This time of year we get 15-20 bites per day and the size is the best of the year. I did 3 guide trips this week and my clients landed fish over 4 pounds each day. As the days get longer the females will inch closer to the spawning areas and begin to prepare for the spawn. Guntersville FIshing Charter December 17th Guntersville bass fishing report
Wow!!! This week was one for the ages. I guided everyday this week and guntersville showed out for us. Warm weather and good water color set the stage for phenomenal fishing. My clients averaged landing 25 bass per day with the average size almost 4 pounds. We tripled up on 5 pounders Wednesday and ended the day with 8 fish over 5 and two over 6. Our best baits have been crankbaits and swimbaits in 9 feet near points and humps. The forecast is for 60 degree weather through the new year so this type of fishing should keep getting better. Guntersville FIshing Charter December 10th Guntersville bass fishing report
Winter fishing has become my favorite time to be on Guntersville. In December and January the usually crowded ramps are empty and the fish are hungry. The last two weeks on half day trips my clients have averaged landing 17-18 bass and the average size is about 3.75 pounds with many fish over 4 pounds. There are 3 ways to  approach winter fishing, You can fish bridges, ledges or outside grasslines. I have been sampling all 3 with success with the biggest fish being found around the bridges. Our best baits have been swimbaits, crankbaits and football jigs. If you are interested in fishing with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185 or visit www.shaneellisfishing.com
Guntersville FIshing Charter Thanksgiving bass fishing report for Guntersville
November has been the best in years maybe decades. The water is warmer than normal and the fish are feeding agressively. Yesterdays water temp was 61 so December is setting up to be spectacular. As the nights cool the water off the bigger fish will move out of the channels to feed up for the upcoming spawn. The primary forage is still shad but bluegill and crawfish will start to play a role soon. Last winter my client landed an 11 pounder in the winter and it is by far the best time to catch big fish. In north Alabama winter high temps are usually in the upper 50s with lows around 40. That keeps the water warm enough for the fish to feed year around. I did 2 trips this week and we caught about 25 fish per day with the average size starting to increase. Both days our best 5 was over 20 pounds. Our primary pattern is shad imitating baits in 5-9 feet. If you would like to fish with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185.
