Guntersville FIshing Charter January 30th Guntersville fishing report
I did 2 guide trips this week and the fishing is improving everyday. With 70s forecasted for next week excellent fishing should be here to stay. We had 2 bouts of extreme cold and it did change things. The bass did move deeper and they were harder to catch for 2-3 days however as the weather improved so did the fishing. One thing I noticed was the shad were opaque white instead of the usual translucent silver color. Electronics were absolutely the key to finding and catching fish. The group of fish that was in 12-14 feet moved to 19 and the group in 4 feet moved to 9 feet. The trap bite was off but slower moving baits fished in the strike zone worked nicely. We landed 15 fish per day and the average size was 4lbs. If you are interested in fishing with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter The effects of extreme cold on the springtime fishing at Guntersville
We have had 2 bouts of extreme cold here in Alabama which is very uncommon. Will this delay the spawn? NO. Will it make fishing better? Yes. We are expecting a quick warmup into the 60s and 70s in February. This cold weather along with a healthy population of bass will yield outstanding fishing this spring and summer. Why? First some of the shad will not survive the cold creating a change in the ratio of bass to forage which is in the anglers favor. Also the grass will thin out a bit allowing anglers an opportunity to target the bass without as much obstruction. Soon all the forage and bass will be seeking warmer water and that's when they can be caught easily. The cure to cabin fever is a fishing trip to guntersville. Guntersville FIshing Charter January 16th Neely Henry bass fishing report
Neely Henry is absolutey full of bass and they are biting. I did 1 guide trip at Neely this week and 1 at guntersville. The Neely trip yielded a total catch rate of 14 bass with most in the 2.75lb range. If you think you need to fish slow and deep in the winter you better think again. These fish are in less than 10 feet and they love chasing crankbaits. Current breaks and riprap are the most productive areas and a dt8 or 7a bomber are the best baits. Even when the water clears I prefer red or chartreuse in the winter. The best way to winterize your boat is to go fishing. Guntersville FIshing Charter January 8th Guntersville bass fishing report
It's cold outside but the fishing at guntersville is hot. This last week I did 2 guide trips and we had great catch rates and the best size of the year. In the winter I average about 20 bass landed per day and the average size is 3.75 pounds. My client on Monday got his PB and my client Sunday was shocked how big these fish are. We are in the midst of a blast of cold air which will only make the fishing better when it's safe to get out there. My 3 best baits right now are an arig, jerkbait and a freeloader. I expect phenomenal fishing after this cold front. Call and book today at 256-744-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter January 2nd Guntersville Bass fishing report
It's getting fun out there now. There are fish in every depth zone and you can catch them any way you like. If you want to shake a fluke style bait that will produce. If you want to power fish that can work too. This last week I did 4 guide trips and we averaged about 25 catches per day with the size being unreal. We have had a best 5 over 24lbs everyday. We are about to have a major cold front and I know exactly what these fish will do relative to the water temp decreasing. If you are interested in fishing with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter December 25th Guntersville bass fishing report
If Santa didn't make it to you it's not your fault. The fishing at guntersville is just too good and he had to stop and catch a few. I have fished this lake for 40 years and it has had its ups and downs for sure. However it's currently the healthiest it has ever been. The grass is perfect and the stocking program has paid off. In recent tournaments it is taking 5@30lbs to win. Some argue it's because of Livescope. Well you can't catch them if they aren't there. Guntersville is a big and dynamic lake. It's definitely not easy but it's healthy and full of 3-7 pound bass with a few double digit fish roaming around. If you would like to fish with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter December 18th Guntersville bass fishing report
Wow!!! This week was special for sure. It has been 65 degrees and cloudy all week which prompted a big group to move into feeding areas. I had 3 guide trips this week and we landed big ones after big ones. The average catch rate was 17 fish per day and the average size was 4lbs. We caught them deep on the creek ledges with a nicotine shad and we caught them on humps and points with a dt 8. Each day seems to elicit better fishing than the day before. These fish are feeding up to prepare for the spawn. If you are interested in fishing with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter December 10th Guntersville bass fishing report
With the recent rain and 65 degree weather the bass are on the move. I did 2 guide trips this week and we caught about 15 fish per day with the quality being the best since last winter. Every depth zone has a fishable population of bass at the moment. The really big fish are mostly still out in 12-19 feet around bait. However a large group has started to move towards the spawning areas. This shallower group can be targeted in 8 feet near the bays and pockets. Best baits out deep are a freeloader and an arig. Up shallow a jerkbait and crankbait having been getting it done. If you want to fish with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter December 1st Guntersville bass fishing report
December and January consistently yield some of the best fishing of the year. However you like to fish can be productive. There are obviously big groups of fish out on the creek ledges following bait but there is also a shallow bite. The tournament weights in the winter are ridiculous. Anything less than 30 pounds has no chance to win and 20 pounds isn't even competitive. I did 3 guide trips this past week and we landed about 20 fish per day with big fish showing up each day. Our best baits out deep are a jerkbait and a freeloader. Up shallow a chatterbait has produced well. To fish with a USCG licensed guide call 256-744-5185.
