Guntersville FIshing Charter June 27th Guntersville bass fishing report: It’s HOT
The temperature is hot outside and so is the bass fishing at Guntersville. Numbers this week have been an apex for the entire year. Size has been great too. We are averaging 40 a day with many 4 and 5 pound fish per day. There are several great patterns producing at the moment. Deep river ledges are excellent especially if the current is in excess of 30,000 cubic feet per second. A willow fly hatch has yielded a shallow "bream eater" pattern and the newest deal to emerge is punching deep grass. Our best baits are a big plug out deep,a pop r around the willow fly hatch and a beaver style bait for punching. If you would like to fish with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter June 19th Guntersville bass fishing report: The best fishing of the year is now!!
I have experienced these cooler rainy summers a couple of times before and it makes for great fishing at Guntersville. The winning stringers are absolutely out deep on the river ledges. To attack them 3 baits will work; a big crankbait, a football jig and a big swimbait. However if you just want to have fun the grass is full of bait and bass. It's common to catch a 20lb bag in the grass and the number of fish we catch shallow is excellent. Our best baits shallow are a topwater bait, chatterbait and a Texas rig. In the afternoons there is quite a bit of schooling activity which is a sign the fall is going to be really good. I did 3 guide trips this week and we averaged 40 bass a day with tons of 4 pounders. Guntersville FIshing Charter June 12th Guntersville bass fishing report: Deep,Shallow and in between.
Guntersville is really good at the moment. It's taking high 20s to win the afternoon tournaments and the fish are in multiple depth zones. This week I did 4 guide trips and averaged 30 fish per day landed with numerous 4 and 5 lbers. You can absolutely go crank river ledges and catch winning fish. There are also fish in the shallows and the in between depth ranges have a fishable population. Guntersville is a challenge and you have to keep an open mind but I have done almost 900 guide trips and our success rate is 100%. If you are interested in fishing with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter June 6th Guntersville bass fishing report: The frog bite is on!!!
This has been an unusual summer relative to weatger and it has showcased how diverse and dynamic guntersville is. There are several patterns working at the moment. The deep ledges are producing, bream beds are a great pattern, some mornings a decent shad spawn exists and now that the grass is matting up the frog bite is on. This last week I guided 3 days and our average catch rate was 26 on half day trips. The size is excellent as we caught 19lbs or better each day with our best 5. Out deep a big spoon is working, around bream beds a pop r is best, for the shad spawn a spinnerbait is a great choice and for fishing the mats a black frog is the deal. If you are interested in fishing with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185
Guntersville FIshing Charter Forward facing sonar: The pros and cons.
Forward facing sonar is the most polarizing and most controversial topic in bass fishing. I use it everyday as a fulltime guide and fully understand the pros and cons. First let's discuss the positive effects of forward facing sonar. It absolutely allows an angler to be more efficient and target bigger fish which shows up in tournament production. It also has spread out the field allowing the hard structure areas to get less pressure because many anglers are searching open water for roaming fish. The sales of graphs, transducers, mounts, batteries and wiring harnesses have exploded. Now let's look at the negative impact. The fishing industry has always been driven by tackle sales and FFS has negatively impacted bait sales. It is expensive and anglers that can't afford it are at a disadvantage. It isn't "made for tv" as watching anglers stare at a screen is a hard product to sell. Well ok what can be done? I think what the bass pro tour h
Guntersville FIshing Charter May 28th Guntersville bass fishing report: Cool weather means big bass.
This week we were given a very unusual cold front in May. It really got the big fish feeding and it sure was nice fishing in October like temperatures. Average catch rate per day was 17 and each day we landed 5 fish stringers over 20 pounds. The lake is really diverse and dynamic right now. The river ledges are producing, there is a good frog bite and flipping docks is a fun way to catch them. Easy it is not however with a concise plan and efficient processes and procedures it can be great fishing. With below average temperatures and current on the tennesee river I expect the fishing to be incredible through June. If you are interested in fishing with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185.

October is one of my favorite months to bass fish at Guntersville. However you have to adjust to conditions to continue to be productive. I see many anglers using springtime techniques that are not productive in the fall. I like to fish fast and mo...
