Guntersville FIshing Charter August 7th Guntersville bass fishing report: Punch them out
When the bass get in the thick stuff Punch Them Out!!! The cooler nights have yielded incredible fishing this week. There are 3 patterns working: Deep ledges as usual,Scooling fish and a Punching bite. We have done 4 guide trips this week and our catch rate was 40 per day with several personal best bass coming in. The punching deal is a ton of fun, produces big ones and requires specialized gear. My setup is: A metanium reel high gear ratio,a 7ft 8 inch heavy rod,65 lb braid and a 1oz weight pegged with a 3/0 heavy duty hook and a beaver style bait. You simply pitch it out, work it for a few seconds, reel it in and repeat. The number of bites you get is surprising and the size is excellent. Guntersville FIshing Charter August 1st Guntersville bass fishing report: It’s time to go back to school
This is my favorite time of year to fish!!! When a school of 100 big bass come up feeding near the boat it's incredible. August marks the start of consistent schooling action that will last until the water gets in the low 50s which is around December. I have done many guide trips inwhich we landed over a hundred bass and all of them have been this time of year. I have fished guntersville for 50 years and I have been able to find quite a few places where they like to school. They key is to find areas that fire at different times so you can stay on feeding fish all day. This week we have averaged 35 bass per day and the best baits were a spook and a crankbait. If you are interested in fishing with a USCG licensed guide call 256-74-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter July 24th Guntersville bass fishing report: The shad are starting their annual migration
Guntersville is red hot and getting better. I only had 2 trips this week but the numbers and size were fantastic. We landed 40 bass per day and we had a best 5@19 lbs or better each day. The days are getting shorter which signals the shad to start migrating. They are on the river channel but they are starting their annual move to the very back of the creeks. It will take months for them to reach their destination so intercepting them along the way will provide fast action as the bass follow them. When you find groups of shad you will find groups of feeding bass. This week our best bait out deep was a 6xd and our best bait shallow was an ole monster worm. If you would like to fish with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter July 18th Guntersville bass fishing report: The ledges are dominating
The water temp is 90 and the moon is waning. I have had a decent shallow bite all year but now the ledges have taken over. This week I did 3 trips and we averaged 30 bass per day landed with a best 5 over 20lbs each day. Our best baits are a big crankbait and a spoon out on the river ledges. The thermocline is about 14 feet in the mornings and that's where the bass are feeding. The best places are channel bends and high spots touching the river channel in the form of a hump or point. If you would like to fish with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter July 12th Guntersville bass fishing report: The full moon edition
Wow what a week at guntersville. I have done 5 guide trips this week and the conditions have set up perfect for us. The water level is high and the current is flowing. The water temp is 89 degrees but that full moon has a big population of fish up shallow. Yes, there are giant schools out deep uneffected by the moon but when there are fish in multiple depth zones it is a lot of fun. This week size has been excellent with tons of fish over 4 pounds and the average daily catch rate was 30. I have been bouncing around deep and shallow catching them on every stop. If you would like to fish with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter July 5th Guntersville bass fishing report: School is in session
This week I did 4 guide trips and the fishing is unusually good for July. We averaged 30 bass landed per day with excellent size. What I noticed is when the sun comes up and the bass can get a good look at the shad they are starting to school. This is by far the most fun fishing of the year. When 100 bass come up near the boat feeding aggressively it's an unbelievable experience. This schooling activity is just starting and will get better into the fall. I like to attack these fish with a topwater bait, a crankbait and a bottom bait. If you want to get a chance to see this unbelievable phenomenon call 256-744-5185 to book a trip with a USCG licensed captain.
Guntersville FIshing Charter June 27th Guntersville bass fishing report: It’s HOT
The temperature is hot outside and so is the bass fishing at Guntersville. Numbers this week have been an apex for the entire year. Size has been great too. We are averaging 40 a day with many 4 and 5 pound fish per day. There are several great patterns producing at the moment. Deep river ledges are excellent especially if the current is in excess of 30,000 cubic feet per second. A willow fly hatch has yielded a shallow "bream eater" pattern and the newest deal to emerge is punching deep grass. Our best baits are a big plug out deep,a pop r around the willow fly hatch and a beaver style bait for punching. If you would like to fish with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185.
Guntersville FIshing Charter June 19th Guntersville bass fishing report: The best fishing of the year is now!!
I have experienced these cooler rainy summers a couple of times before and it makes for great fishing at Guntersville. The winning stringers are absolutely out deep on the river ledges. To attack them 3 baits will work; a big crankbait, a football jig and a big swimbait. However if you just want to have fun the grass is full of bait and bass. It's common to catch a 20lb bag in the grass and the number of fish we catch shallow is excellent. Our best baits shallow are a topwater bait, chatterbait and a Texas rig. In the afternoons there is quite a bit of schooling activity which is a sign the fall is going to be really good. I did 3 guide trips this week and we averaged 40 bass a day with tons of 4 pounders. If you are interested in fishing with a USCG licensed captain call 256-744-5185.
