Hatteras Fishing Report for July

With the slower bite, many charters are bottom fishing and that is on fire. We caught Blueline Tilefish on Monday in 700' of water in Hatteras Canyon. There has also been some Snowy Grouper caught. There is a limit of one fish per boat, but they sure are tasty.

On the wrecks we've been catching Vermillion Snapper and Black Sea Bass, as well as Amberjack. Lots of Triggerfish have been coming back to the dock.

Trolling the beaches there are still Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish. We found a grass line yesterday just a couple miles from sea buoy and caught a king mackerel. Inside the sound there are lots of bull red drum in 5-6' of water and slots on the flats.

Gigging has improved with decent catches of flounder and some Sheepshead.

I'm ready for it to cool off and the offshore fishing to improve, but it's not bad if you know where to look.
