Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
We've had some great weather the last couple days while Islamorada Offshore Fishing. The end of last week and over the weekend was a little windy, but it looks like decent weather for the up coming week. There's been good fishing overall, and all sorts of species! A lot of boats have been heading offshore in search of mahi, and most the boats have been putting together decent catches when it's all said and done. It's not red hot, but if you're patient and put your time in looking for birds and floating debris, it has been paying off. Most of the boats have had anywhere from 10 - 40 keeper schoolies (3-6 lbs), and there's been a few bigger fish up to 25 lbs on the dock too. Don't forget that we are hosting the "Gotta Luv Them" dolphin tournament on May 17th 2014 at Bud n' Mary's Marina, so if adding a little competition to fishing is something you're interested in, sign up and go have fun. It's a charity based tournament with many of the proceeds benefiting area scholarships as well as others. There's been some wahoo from 5 - 20 lbs on the big pieces of floating debris in addition to the dolphin (mahi). There's also been some amberjack on the humps and wrecks, but not as many as there should be for this time of year. Hopefully they move back in soon. The deep water bootom fishing aka "deep dropping" has still been productive for blueline tilefish, rose porgy, yellowedge grouper, etc in 400 - 600' of water. Back near the reef there's been a handful of sailfish caught and released each day. Not everyone is getting shots at them, but most of the boats putting in the time are seeing a couple fish. Inside the reef on the stingrays there's been some cobia caught each day as well. It also just takes time and patience as the boats search for the rays inside the reef. You may not find them every day, but you won't find them if you don't try! While achored up there's been yellowtail snapper, grouper (shallow water groupers still closed for harvest till May 1st), mutton snapper, etc. We are also starting to see some permit on the reef line. They head out there this time of year to spawn, and they average 10 - 25 lbs, but you have a shot at some real big ones over 30 lbs too. The shark fishing is still producing some bites too, including bull sharks, hammerheads, and the occasional tiger. We also got out on two daytime swordfishing trips at the end of last week, and the first day caught 2, and the second day caught 1. Give us a call when you're ready to book your fishing charter and we'll find a great boat for you! 305 664 2461
