The Bite is Picking Up off Hatteras

In the surf and inshore lots of puppy drum, blow toad, sea mullet, and bluefish are being caught. Around the point there have been some good nights with the big red drum. SW winds will be blowing the next few days and with the water temperature hovering around 69-70 degrees on the beaches, the bite is about to explode. A full moon next week, so expect better catches of bottom fish, such as big red drum.

Offshore the bite is steadily picking up. The larger gaffers have made their showing and a lot of the fleet is bringing in some nice specimens. The blackfin are still here and there have been many citations in the last week with 20#+ sized fish. There are also some yellowfin tuna being caught to the east.

A 511# blue marlin was boated on Sunday. More wahoo are being caught, with most boats bring back at least one.Several boats have been releasing some white marlin as well, and a sailfish and spearfish was caught yesterday.

On the bottom, some huge golden tilefish have been brought to the docks, including a 43 and 44#er this week. 50# grouper are being caught, and lots of black sea bass, and triggerfish.
