Guntersville FIshing Charter August 1st Guntersville bass fishing report
August brings shorter days and schooling fish. I personally love catching numbers of bass and at guntersville when you catch numbers your best 5 are always heavy. This is what I call the pre fall phase and the baitfish are starting to migrate towards the creeks with huge schools of bass roaming nearby. It's not uncommon for 50-100 bass to erupt on the surface at any moment. Last week I did 4 trips and we caught as many as 100 with our lowest total at 27. There is nothing more fun than seeing these fish chase on the surface and leading them perfectly with a bait knowing your about to get bit. Guntersville FIshing Charter July 24th Guntersville bass fishing report
This week the fishing started good and was spectacular by Friday. I guided everyday and we started the week catching 20-25 a day but Friday we caught 75. The rain allowed for more current flow and the fishing simply got better. River channel ledges continue to be the best pattern and I feel like about 60% of the big fish are still out deep but frogging and flipping is starting to become very productive. With the shorter days and cooling water the grass fishing will get better and better. If you are interested in hiring a USCG licensed guide call 256-744-5185 or visit www.shaneellisfishing.com
Guntersville FIshing Charter July 17th Guntersville bass fishing report
I had 3 guide trips last week and the fishing got better each day. We landed 73 bass total and had about 10 fish over 4 lbs. The water temp cooled off 2 degrees from 88 to 86 which doesn't sound like much but the fish became much more active with the cooler water.   The dominant pattern continues to be river channel ledges and the fishing is best early and late. Our best baits are crankbaits and football jigs in 12-19 feet. When you see these fish on the graph if they are suspended they usually don't bite well but if they are on the bottom they will usually bite quickly. Guntersville FIshing Charter July 8th Weiss lake bass fishing report
Weiss lake is Alabama's best kept bass fishing secret. Everybody knows it's full of crappie but it's also a phenomenal bass lake taking over 20lbs in 5 fish tournaments to win. This past week at daylight swimming a jig and a spinnerbait in the deeper water willow was an excellent way to get on the board with several quality largemouth. As the sun comes up that bite wanes and pitching to boathouses in the shaded area can produce good results with a small jig. The spotted bass can be found down in the powerhouse area on hard bottom offshore structure and they will bite a deep diving crankbait. Guntersville FIshing Charter July 1st Logan Martin fishing report
I guided at Logan Martin yesterday and my first objective is to always get a ledge bite going. Well that didn't happen. Thankfully we started the morning with a topwater and put a solid limit in the boat. The next pattern I checked was brushpiles and we were able to get a lot of bites doing that however we were unable to upgrade the fish we caught early. Then I started checking hard structure areas in about 5 feet with a dt6 and this really was the dominant pattern and we were able to upgrade our best 5 fish to around 14lbs. Guntersville FIshing Charter June 27th Guntersville bass fishing report
I did 4 guide trips last week and the fishing got progressively better as the week went along. We averaged 35 fish per day and we caught several big fish each day. The fish are getting acclimated to the warmer water temperatures and they seem to be getting more active. The best pattern continues to be river channel ledges with big crankbaits and spoons however a secondary pattern is emerging. Frogging and flipping is starting to produce and by august this will be the dominant pattern. If you are interested in a guide trip call 256-744-5185 or visit www.shaneellisfishing.com
Guntersville FIshing Charter June 18th Guntersville bass fishing report
The tournament weights at guntersville continue to be excellent. In the honeycomb tournament this morning it took 5@27 to win and 22lbs to get a check. For summertime fishing that is really strong. I guided everyday this week and to beat the heat we fished 430 am to 930 am. We averaged 25 fish per day and each day we had fish over 6lbs. The key pattern continues to be main river ledges and the best baits are deep crankbaits and spoons. The fish bite best early in the morning then they feed again in the afternoon as the current increases. If you are interested in a guide trip call 256-744-5185 or visit www.shaneellisfishing.com
Guntersville FIshing Charter June 12th guntersville bass fishing report
Guntersville just keeps on producing even in the hot summer weather. Last week we averaged 40 per day and we had a best 5 over 17lbs each day. The fish have transitioned into a true summertime pattern positioning themselves on the tennesee river ledges. The best baits are deep diving crankbaits and big spoons. Most people are intimidated by the vastness of this big lake but if you work hard and fish smart you can be successful. In the Alabama bass trail event yesterday 24.57 won and there were 11 limits over the 20lb mark. 40th place was 17.4 which is incredible for summertime fishing. Guntersville FIshing Charter June 2nd Guntersville bass fishing report
Ledge season is now in full swing as massive schools have moved offshore to feed up after the spawn. We are averaging the best numbers since fall about 40 fish per half day trip. We are also catching tons of 3-4lb fish and some over 5. What you need to look for this time of year is an irregularity on the main river ledge that can hold bait and bass. The best baits for summertime fishing on the tva are crankbaits, jigs and swimbaits. It can be grueling at times hunting these offshore fish but when you find them it's worth it.
