We’ve had to endure quite a bit of smoke this week most of it is coming from fires in Idaho. The silver lining is that it acts as pseudo cloud cover. We have seen quite a few rising fish and streamers have been working as well. Water temps are stable anywhere between 57 – 65... Capt Dave reports the best fishing we have seen in awhile on the Viking Starship! It was a great day with size and action. There was a really good pick of all LARGE Porgies with mixed size Sea Bass to start. We fished one area all day getting in a few drifts when the tide […]

We enjoyed another great day of fishing in beautiful weather. We started hooking tuna at daylight and then the yellowtail got in the mix shortly there after. By 1300 our group had tagged what they wanted on good grade tuna and yellowtail. With our tuna and yellowtail done we will now be trying for exotics.…

We had a little rain after dark but not enough to bump the flows. All of the rivers are in great shape with decent water temps and flows. We’ll have a bit more sunshine today but the wind will be fine at 5 – 10 mph. So we’ll stick to the same program with nymphing …

That doggone Little Lava Fire has moved enough that additional closures are required to keep the public safe. At this time all of the Upper Deschutes from Little Lava to the Road 40 bridge have been closed. Sad that the Blue Hole access is not possible! The good news looking at the fire perimeter is … Continue reading Upper Deschutes Headwaters ar...

Shop hours are 7am – 7pm daily!!! Been busy chasing fish and having fun!!!  The river is low and clear but the kings have decided to start running!  It has not been “ideal” conditions but the fish think it’s time to come home.  Mother nature is amazing and very unpredictable at times but we are […] The post September 9 2024 appeared first on Baldw...

Don't miss this week's FSFA Club meeting on Tuesday (Sept 10 @ 6:30 - Front Street Civic Center in Melbourne) which will be featuring Capt. Jonathan Moss who stars in TV on "The Captain's Log." Meanwhile fishing had been rock solid lately as the mullet run continues to push through our waters and the snook are smashing to start the season. In this...

Chasing Chrome Tying Steelhead and Pacific Salmon Flies by Jonathan Farmer is a noteworthy entry into fly tying books. This book falls into what I classify as modern steelheading (salmon fishing too) post- intruder style flies fished with skagit lines. … Continue reading →

It was a beautiful crisp day to search for whales and dolphins. Although we originally planned to head offshore our plans were interrupted by a blow belonging to a juvenile humpback whale not far from shore beyond the lighthouse. While waiting for this individual to surface two additional blows were spotted and we were suddenly […]

The clouds should be back today and we may see some light afternoon showers. The wind will be way less than yesterday too so it looks like a good day to be on the water. Nymphing again will be the best bet in the morning but streamers could be an option with the clouds. In …

Bridges, brushpiles and bluffs. We are catching about 50 per day and my clients are taking home a limit of nice ones. The best depth zone for us at the moment is 15 feet and our best technique is tight lining a 1/16 oz Bobby garland in monkey milk or albino. We use 4lb test line and a 7 foot medium action rod with a 1000 series reel. At daylight t...
