Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
The Wahoo fishing has picked up this past couple of weeks. I fished offshore 5 days during this time and caught a Wahoo each day. All of our Wahoo have been between 15 and 33 fathoms. One day we caught 3 with the largest being 60 pounds… on a dink bait with 80# mono off the long rigger. We were very lucky.
Here is the video:
We also caught some bailers and gaffers. With little grass lines available, it has been hard to catch the bailers as they seem to hang out deeper and less interested in our offerings. A few Blackfin Tuna are still being caught to the East and North, but seems to be hit or miss.
There have been a few billfish caught among the fleet as well, with the majority being Sailfish with a few White Marlin, Spearfish, and a couple of Blue Marlin.
Deep drops have provided limits of Blueline Tilefish and a few Yellowedge Grouper. Nearshore drops are providing Triggerfish, Black Sea Bass, Vermillion Snapper, and Amberjack.
The inshore bite along the beaches has primarily been Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel. A few Cobia have been caught around the inlet as well. In the sound, big schools of Red Drum are working the flats and shoals. We caught a few nice ones last week on the Ocracoke side of the inlet.
We are still catching Flounder and Sheepshead when gigging at night.
A cold front is supposed to move through next week and should cool the waters down a bit to improve the fishing.
